The way we think about "orphan care"

stroke2.png

is all wrong

For decades many people have approached caring for orphans the same way.

Over time, research has revealed what works, what doesn't, and what truly is best for kids.

11.png

Children separated from their families need reunification whenever possible.

12.png

Children without a safe family, need permanency with a local family.

13.png

Children at-risk of separation need family preservation.

The #1 solution is clear: CHILDREN NEED FAMILIES.

The 100% Participation Campaign

A two-week campaign from March 22 - April 3, 2021, supported by 45 of our founding nonprofit partner organizations and 30 celebrity ambassadors, Orphan Myth focused on the collective commitment to one big idea: it will take 100% of us to get 100% of children into a safe and loving family.

Through this campaign, Orphan Myth aimed to:

increase public awareness,

mobilize supporters,

and gather resources

to enlarge the funnel of the public participation in family-based solutions for children separated from their families and those at risk of separating from family – both globally and in the United States.

Our Ambassadors

Whether through a video message or a post on social media, each ambassador played a critical role in raising awareness about foster care and orphan care.

From Tiffany Haddish (Comedian/Actor), Ben Higgins (former star of The Bachelor and host of Hope Still Wins podcast), Lyric Ross (Actor in This Is Us), Ryder Allen (Actor in Justin Timberlake's film Palmer), and Luke Grimes (Actor in Yellowstone)

-- we are so grateful for their support.

After a few days together in Chicago and originally inspired by the work and mission of Hopeland, an Orphan Myth partner, both Fain and O'Neal wrote their song, "Hope," about the strength of vulnerable children in both the foster care system and orphanages around the world. Both Fain's and O'Neal's young daughters lent their voices to the song, as well as to the song's artwork.

As part of the campaign's commencement, world-renowned musicians and composers Tim Fain (concert violinist and composer featured in films such as Black Swan and Moonlight) and Sleeping At Last (moniker of Chicago-based singer-songwriter, producer, and composer, Ryan O'Neal) released a brand new song, with 100% of proceeds going toward Orphan Myth's 45+ charity partners for the first three months of its launch.

The idea of an "orphan" is full of myths.

Here are the 3 myths THE KIDS want you to know:

Myth #1:

Kids in orphanages have no parents or family.

Children are often living in institutions as a result of poverty and as many as 80% have a living parent or relatives in the community who could care for them with the right support.

Truth #1:

Myth #2:

There are no orphans in

the USA.

The US has over 400,000 children and youth in foster care living with foster families or in group homes. 100,000 of those children are available for adoption.

Truth #2:

Myth #3:

These problems

are not solvable.

This is solvable. Solutions have already been developed and there are more than enough local families for children. Now all we need is YOU.

Truth #3:

Myth #1:

Kids in orphanages have no parents or family.

Children are often separated from their families because of poverty. An estimated 80% of children in orphanages have at least one living parent. With the right supports, many  could be reunified with their families.

Truth #1:

Myth #2:

There are no orphans in

the USA.

There are over 420,000 children in the United States foster care system. The majority of them need a loving foster family while they wait to return to their biological families. 100,000 will never be able to return home and are waiting to be adopted.

Truth #2:

Myth #3:

These problems

are not solvable.

This is solvable. Solutions have already been developed and proven successful. Now all we need is YOU.

Truth #3:
